Welcome to the Troop 229 Website

Boy Scout Troop 229 is a part of the Eklutna District of the Great Alaska Council and a part of the Boy Scouts of America.

We are chartered by Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Eagle River and meet every Thursday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the new Saint Andrew Catholic Church location at 16300 Domain Lane in Eagle River, Alaska.

Our Boy Scout Troop meets throughout the year, only breaking for national holidays and Christmas and spring break. In addition to annual trips to Camp Gorsuch in Chugiak, Alaska, or Lost Lake near Fairbanks, the troop takes monthly camping trips, regular excursions and progressively works toward increasing Scout skills, merit badges and advancements during weekly meetings. The troop sent a Scout to the World Jamboree in Japan and a Scout to the National Order of the Arrow Convention in 2015, as well as a Crew to the Philmont High Adventure Base near Cimarron, New Mexico in 2016 where they hiked nearly 100 miles in 10 days.

Troop 229 has been active in Eagle River, Alaska, for 39 years and currently has more than 50 Scouts ages 11 to 17 who meet regularly. Our ongoing goal is to run a troop that operates in the manner designed by Baden Powell and meets requirements of the Great Alaska and National BSA Councils.

We are a boy led/adult guided group that seeks to help build confident Scouts and responsible future citizens. The Scouts are in charge, the Scouts make the decisions and Scouts choose our camping destinations. It is the goal of the involved adult leaders to make sure that we provide an experience that allows boys to truly understand what it is to be a Boy Scout.

The Troop currently has five patrols and encourages all boys who are first class or higher to build leadership skills by serving as the senior patrol leader, patrol leaders, troop guide and other positions of responsibility such as the quartermaster and chaplains aide.

Community service is also an important aspect of serving as a part Troop 229, and Scouts annually assist with a variety of community projects.
